Voyager 1 is the most distant human-made object, now over 165 AU from the Sun in interstellar space. Launched in 1977, it flew past Jupiter and Saturn before heading outward, crossing the heliopause in August 2012.
Despite operating on roughly 220 watts of power from its decaying RTGs, Voyager 1 continues to return data on cosmic rays, magnetic fields, and the interstellar medium. It will reach one light-day from Earth in November 2026.
